Greetings internet traveller. Welcome to the home of Brett Ross Photography.
My full name is Brett Ross Blignaut, I just kind of stuck with Brett Ross Photography because my surname is difficult for most people to pronounce.
I’m originally from Durban, South Africa and moved to Sydney in 2018 with my fiancé.
We all get that question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The answer for most of us changes as we get older, but the one common theme that mine had, was that I really didn’t want to be stuck in the corporate world. I wanted some freedom, and to be able to experience new things.
I eventually studied video and was an editor for a sports and corporate production company for 2 years before I got my first stills camera.
It was all downhill from there. I loved landscape and wildlife photography, but because I am a geek, I wanted to learn more about lighting and funky camera techniques, which then got me into portrait photography and lighting the human form.
I started to mix the portrait photography with the landscape photography and now 90% of my work draws inspiration from a location that I want to shoot in, or just an environment that I enjoy, like the beach.
I don’t like to get stuck on a photography genre, because there are too many interesting opportunities that being diverse can open me up to.
I am a geek at heart. I love to learn, about almost anything.
